OHCHR officials discuss Sri Lankas progress on commitments

The OHCHR delegation which attended the meeting included Georgette Gagnon, Director of Field Operations and Technical Cooperation for the UN Human Rights Office, and Mona Rishmawi, Chief of the Rule of Law, Equality and Non-Discrimination Branch at the UN Human Rights Office. Officials from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) had talks with the Prime Minister’s office on the progress made by Sri Lanka in meeting its commitments made in the UN Human Rights Council resolution.The meeting was held with Ports, Shipping and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayaka in his capacity as the Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Government information department said. The OHCHR delegation is also expected to meet several senior members of the Government and seek their views on Sri Lanka’s current position with regards to the UNHRC resolution on promoting reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette) At the meeting, the two parties focused on UN Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet’s report on Sri Lanka which will be presented to the March session of the UN Human Rights Council, where Sri Lanka’s progress on the UNHRC resolutions would be discussed by its member-nations.
