By Manash Pratim BhuyanAstana, Jun 9 (PTI) Chinese President Xi Jinping today told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he watched Aamir Khan- starrer sports drama Bollywood film Dangal and liked it.Dangal, which was released in China on May 5, has broken several records in the Chinese movie industry and raked up over Rs 1,100 crore. It became only the 33rd film in China to cross a whopping collection of one billion yuan (USD 147 million). It continues to play in over 7,000 screens across China.Xi said Dangal is doing well in China and he himself watched it, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar said after the talks between the two leaders on the sidelines of the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), where India and Pakistan today became full members of the grouping.Dangal has also become the first top-grossing non- Hollywood film in China. The film is inspired by the real-life story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who went against a patriarchal society to train his daughters to become champion wrestlers.Aamir Khan had recently said he hoped the film would be loved in China but never dreamt of such a spectacular success.”I always believe that language is not a barrier when it comes to creative endeavours and its success in China has proved that,” Aamir had said.Jaishankar said both Modi and Xi also deliberated on enhancing cultural cooperation between the two countries. Topics : Saudi Arabia said Tuesday it has permanently revoked the license of Qatari broadcaster beIN Sports and slapped it with a fine of $2.7 million over alleged “monopolistic” practices.Subscribing to beIN, the Arab world’s leading sports channel which has exclusive rights to several key tournaments, has been difficult for Saudi fans since the kingdom’s 2017 boycott of Qatar.Just days after Riyadh and its allies cut ties with Doha, Saudi Arabia banned the sale and distribution of beIN receivers and blocked Qatari websites as well as all transactions with its former ally. In 2018, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Competition (GAC) said it was revoking the broadcaster’s license and imposing the 10-million riyal ($2.7 million) fine, according to local media. On Tuesday, the GAC said a Saudi administrative court had upheld the decision. The GAC said beIN had “abused its dominant position through several monopolistic practices” that violated the kingdom’s competition law.In a statement, BeIN dismissed the decision as “nonsensical”, which it said had come after “sham legal proceedings”. “The very idea that permanently banning a leading competitor from a market could in any way promote competition is plainly absurd,” beIN said in a statement.BeIN has alleged that since August 2017 a vast and sophisticated Saudi bootlegging network known as “beoutQ” illicitly transmitted its programs via Riyadh-based satellite provider Arabsat. The World Trade Organization ruled earlier in June that Riyadh had failed to protect the intellectual property rights of beIN by refusing to take action against beoutQ.The ruling could have serious implications for a proposed 300-million-pound ($370-million) Saudi-backed takeover of English Premier League club Newcastle United.English Premier League football chief executive Richard Masters admitted last month that the proposed takeover involving Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) was “complicated”.

Fianna Fáil Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has called on Fine Gael and Labour Oireachtas members in Donegal to stand up against deeply unfair cuts in Budget 2013.Senator Ó Domhnaill said the TDs and Senators who have been wrestling with their consciences in public over mean-spirited measures in the Budget have an opportunity this week and next to vote against these cuts. The Donegal Senator said, “This Budget contains some deeply unfair measures that fly in the face of promises made by Fine Gael and Labour to voters here in Donegal and across the country. It is a Budget that takes no account of people’s ability to pay, does nothing to encourage growth and puts further pressure on already badly squeezed lower and middle income families.“A number of Government representatives both locally and nationally, including Fine Gael’s Joe McHugh, have been publically wrestling with their consciences over these callous cuts. Across the country there has been a parade of Fine Gael and Labour representatives muttering about the need for ‘processes’ and ‘consultation’ to change a budget they initially rushed to welcome. “But there is a process this week where they have the power to change these measures. They can vote against the cuts they disagree with during the debate on the Social Welfare Bill this week. My party intends to force votes on the measures we believe will further erode the quality of life of the most vulnerable, and the measures that take no account of ability to pay. These include:– the cut to child benefit– the cut to Respite Care Grant– the cuts to the Farm Assist Programme– the flat rate increase to PRSI affecting all income earners the same“If Government representatives really feel strongly about these callous cuts, they will vote against them instead of supporting them. The Fine Gael TDs here in Donegal can show their constituents that they are prepared to keep their promises.“This is about choices. If the Government had taken Fianna Fái;’s suggestion of adding 3% to the Universal Social Charge (USC) for people on over €100,000 a year and changes to pension tax relief for the country’s highest earners, most of these deeply unfair measures would have been completely unnecessary.” SENATOR CHALLENGES DONEGAL TDs TO STAND UP TO ‘UNFAIR CUTS’ was last modified: December 11th, 2012 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:SENATOR CHALLENGES DONEGAL TDs TO STAND UP TO ‘UNFAIR CUTS’
