I’d buy cheap FTSE 100 stocks in an ISA to get rich Everywhere you look, there are cheap FTSE 100 stocks that merit your attention. It always happens after a stock market crash. When investors panic, they sell off good companies along with the bad, leaving bargains scattered in their wake.Yet many investors may be considering other asset classes instead. For example, cash, buy-to-let and gold. While it’s good to have a balanced portfolio, my focus right now would be cheap FTSE 100 stocks, and here’s why.5G is here – and shares of this ‘sleeping giant’ could be a great way for you to potentially profit!According to one leading industry firm, the 5G boom could create a global industry worth US$12.3 TRILLION out of thin air…And if you click here we’ll show you something that could be key to unlocking 5G’s full potential…Cash is a disaster zone. The Bank of England has slashed base rates to a record low 0.1%. It’s even talked about introducing negative rates. That raises the dismal prospect of savers paying banks to look after their money. While everybody should have some cash on easy access for emergencies, this is no place to keep your long-term wealth. The real value of cash holdings will fall, year after year, as inflation gets to work.Cheap FTSE 100 stocks tempt me moreBy comparison, if you invest in cheap FTSE 100 stocks, you can get income of between 4% and 6% a year, and in some cases more. You also get the prospect of capital growth on top. Shares are more volatile in the short run, but far more rewarding over time.Investing in a buy-to-let property may look more tempting, especially given the current stamp duty holiday. I’d tread carefully though. House prices are rising rapidly, but that’ll be hard to sustain as unemployment surges. I suspect this could be the last hurrah for the housing market. Also, buy-to-let is incredibly bothersome. As an investor, you’ll pay a 3% stamp duty surcharge. That’s on top of conveyancing and mortgage arrangement fees, maintenance and repairs, and all the trouble of finding and replacing tenants. As if that wasn’t enough, the tax treatment is punitive. You can invest in cheap FTSE 100 shares through a Stocks and Shares ISA and take all your returns free of income tax and capital gains tax, for life. Unlike property, you can trade in seconds, pay stamp duty of just 0.5%, and don’t have to deal with estate agents or tenants who can’t or won’t pay the rent.Cash, buy-to-let and gold aren’t for meGold is a safe haven in a crisis and, boy, do we have a crisis on our hands. The precious metal has risen about 25% this year, bursting through $2,000 an ounce for the first time. While every investor should hold some gold for diversification, I wouldn’t buy it now. The price has been trailing down, and its best days maybe over for now.The big disadvantage of gold is that it doesn’t pay any income. That’s another reason why I favour cheap FTSE 100 dividend stocks, because they do. Better still, they offer a rising income, as companies endeavour to increase payouts year after year. While more than a third of FTSE 100 companies have suspended dividends this year, a growing number of stocks are restoring them. I’d buy them today, while they’re still cheap. Harvey Jones has no position in any of the shares mentioned. The Motley Fool UK has no position in any of the shares mentioned. Fair Oaks Ave.Darin Williams, president of Select Patrol, has provided the Health Department with the requested additional information related to licensing, hiring and training by the security agency.Among other things, the Health Department said Select Patrol has preferred to hire Pasadena residents who apply for positions with the company, and has agreed to extend this preference to GEM and TAY program participants. But the hiring effort has had limited results, the report said, owing to requirements set by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) for security service positions. These requirements include a minimum hiring age of 18, an initial $55 application fee for a license with a $40 biennial renewal fee, completion of a criminal history background check through the California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and completion of “Power to Arrest” training prior to application, which includes 32 hours of training in security officer skills completed within the first six months of registration and eight hours of ongoing training completed annually. On its website, Select Patrol said they have opportunities for men and women to join their guard and vehicle patrol teams offering “competitive pay, benefits and incentives.” The agency said they have a vehicle patrol team on a flexible 4/10 work schedule (when an employee works four 10-hour days and then gets three days off each week), with opportunities for advancement and promotion, and a work environment “that respects the individual.”The Health Department has been running the TAY and GEM programs at the Jackie Robinson Community Center since August 2018 when it received a grant from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health through the Proposition 63 Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) to provide supportive services to people experiencing homelessness.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of participants accessing TAY and GEM program services significantly increased, resulting in an increased need for security services to patrol the site, enforce participant safety protocols, and ensure the safety of participants and staff.“Without the security services provided by Select Patrol, staff for the GEM and TAY programs would be responsible for security and patrol responsibilities,” the Health Department said. “This would negatively impact the safety of staff and program participants, as well as limit the time available for case management and housing navigation.”Explaining the fiscal impact of the contract amendment and extension, the department said the expense is eligible for reimbursement by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health grant, with sufficient funding available in the operating budget to absorb the proposed increase without additional appropriations.
Fine Gael Minister Joe McHugh has said Fianna Fáil’s climate and environmental policy threatens major road projects like the A5.The Minister for Education and Skills hit out after comments by Deputy Timmy Dooley on the radio this morning in relation to prioritising Government spending away from the national roads programme. This follows on from Fianna Fáil’s support in recent days of a Green Party/Social Democrats motion to delay or cancel key parts of our regional investment under the National Development Plan (NDP). Minister McHugh said: “We now know from the comments and actions of senior Fianna Fáil members that they are looking at taking a swipe at funding for key roads projects given half a chance.“Mirroring the strategy of the Green Party, Fianna Fáil’s Timmy Dooley said today that the national roads programme should be reprioritised. That’s an interesting word.“Fianna Fáil need to tell us which road projects they would like to abandon? I hope for the sake of Donegal, it’s not our much-needed A5 which will begin later this year.“This is a crucial route for those travelling from the north-west towards Dublin, for people living and working in Donegal, for those doing business, for tourism, for hauliers, farmers, fishermen and for regional growth. “And I hope the opposition isn’t thinking of the Bonagee bypass or the EU backed works planned for the N15/N13 Ballyybofey/Stranorlar region; the N56/N13 Letterkenny – Manorcunningham; or the N14 Manorcunningham – Lifford/Strabane link.“Fianna Fáil called for a 2:1 spend on public transport over roads. With Fine Gael in Government we are already spending big on public transport and cycleways, greenways all feature heavily in the NDP and the Climate Action Plan.“But we still need roads and we are committed to continuing the maintenance and improvements of our road network.“We believe there will be 1 million electric vehicles by 2030 and we will need continued investment in roads.“You’d really have to question how serious Fianna Fáil is about major national roads and transport projects. “It is not just about building new roads, it is often about maintaining and improving our current network, like the top-class improvements we made all along the N56 in Donegal and also at the Blue Banks near Letterkenny.“Are Fianna Fáil against improving road safety? Are they against meeting the needs of isolated rural communities? Fianna Fáil need to be clear with the public in relation to their stance on this.“If Fianna Fáil return to Government, which of our crucial road projects are they considering reprioritising,” Minister McHugh asked.Minister McHugh claims Fianna Fail will scrap key road projects was last modified: June 18th, 2019 by Staff WriterShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:donegalfianna failMinister Joe McHughROADS

For the first time in history, the first day at least will be live broadcast on giant social network Facebook, according to an announcement CNN says Republican leadership will make today. It’s big news, but it also raises interesting questions about media and politics in the current era.Specifically, the live streaming will be done on the Republicans’ page for PledgeToAmerica. When the Obama inauguration was live broadcast in 2009, the video appeared on CNN.com but was powered by Facebook Connect, which allowed viewers to see comments posted exclusively by their Facebook friends, if they so chose. CNN said at the time that 5.3 million video streams of that event were delivered. Will the Facebook live stream be available for embedding around the web tomorrow? That’s unclear. Will critics and gloaters be able to have separate but visitable conversations about the now Republican-controlled Congress, or will it just be one giant shouting match? Will viewers of the Pledge to America page be required to declare to all their Facebook friends that they Like the Republican Party in order to gain viewing or commenting access to the stream, as was so widely grimaced about when George W. Bush started a Facebook page? Will any other online media outlets be allowed to live stream the proceedings, or will it just be Facebook? Twitter? Current.tv? UStream? Who will the new Hellen Thomas of live online social politics be – sitting in the front row and asking difficult questions for decades?Actually, it’s unclear whether Facebook itself will be providing the live stream or whether it will simply be Republicans embedding a live stream on their own Facebook page. I’ve emailed Facebook for clarification and to answer some of the more specific questions. Will Facebook staff be on camera hosting the coverage as they have in other instances? The company recently live-streamed an on-site visit by George W. Bush and it was quite charming (I say that as a non-Republican, too). Update: Andrew Noyes, Facebook’s Manager of Public Policy Communications, got back to us by email and had this to say. “Hundreds of members of Congress use Facebook to communicate and connect with their constituents in an official capacity and we’re excited to see Facebook being used prominently as the 112th Congress gavels into session this week.” It turns out that Rep. Boehner, the new Republican Speaker of the House, is leading the effort with his new media team. Facebook is, however, one of very few 3rd party services that Congress has approved for official use, something that was a subject of controversy when the US government started using YouTube prominently. Many questions philosophical and practical about the implementation will be answered tomorrow morning, but no matter how it goes down, it’s hard to argue that things haven’t changed in the worlds of media and politics.
CALGARY – Sales of oil and gas drilling rights in Alberta delivered almost four times as much money for the provincial treasury in 2017 compared with 2016 but the total remained well short of the record.Alberta Energy reports receiving $18 million in Wednesday’s auction, the last of the year. That brings the total for 2017 to $504 million, 3.7 times as much as the $137 million in 2016. The record was $3.5 billion in 2011.The sales give oil and gas companies the right to drill exploration wells on land where the mineral rights are owned by the province. They are considered a key indicator of future drilling activity.Crown land sales were also up in British Columbia and Saskatchewan this year.Saskatchewan earned about $63 million in 2017, up from $53 million the year before but down from the record of $1.1 billion in 2008.B.C. earned $173 million, up from $15 million in 2016 but nowhere near the record $2.7 billion in 2008.
United Nations: UN chief Antonio Guterres is “continually” monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan and his office is available to both parties, his spokesperson has said. Spokesman for the Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric was asked if the UN chief had spoken with the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions between the two nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours. “The Secretary General and members of his staff are in touch have been in touch with the parties at various levels. We continually monitor the situation and [are] available to the parties,” Dujarric told reporters here Thursday. Also Read – Imran Khan arrives in China, to meet Prez Xi JinpingEarlier this week, Dujarric had said that the Secretary General had not spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan over the situation between the two nations but had expressed his concern to officials on both sides on the need to de-escalate tensions. “We’re fully aware of the situation. The Secretary General has had no calls with those two Heads of Government as far as I’m aware, but he’s had contacts with both sides to express, I think, his concern and the need to do as much as anyone can to de-escalate the tensions,” Dujarric had said at the daily press briefing Tuesday. Also Read – US blacklists 28 Chinese entities over abuses in XinjiangWhen asked if the Secretary General is planning to get involved to try and mediate a de-escalation, Dujarric had said last week that “as always”, the Secretary General’s good offices are always “available should both parties or all parties, depending on the situation, agree to do that”. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after a suicide bomber of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) killed 40 CRPF personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district in February 14.
NEW DELHI: The Congress decision to nominate star boxer Vijender Singh for the prestigious South Delhi constituency has come as a surprise to many but former chief national coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu has not been taken aback at the development. The longest serving national coach in Indian boxing history, Sandhu was in charge when Vijender bagged the historic bronze medal in the middleweight categary at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Sandhu feels that Congress President Rahul Gandhi always admired and appreciated Vijnder’s skills inside the ring. “Gandhi is a boxing fan and liked to watch Vijender in action,” Sandhu said on Wednesday. “I remember, during the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Gandhi would sometimes come to the Talkatora Indoor Stadium unannounced to watch Vijender’s bouts. “Later, he would come to encourage our team members, speak to Vijender and leave. I found him to be a genuine boxing lover,” said the former coach. In 2015, Vijender turned a professional boxer under the WBO banner and has performed excellently since then — winning 10 bouts in a row. On July 16, 2016, Vijender took on Kerry Hope of Australia at Delhi’s Thyagaraj Sports Complex and Rahul Gandhi was present to watch the keenly fought bout. “As far I know, Vijender was in close contact with Gandhi. He would sometimes go and meet the Congress leader. But I don’t know whether that resulted in Vijender getting the party ticket in this election,” Sandhu said. Having two WBO titles, Asia Pacific Super Middleweight Oriental Super Middleweight, under his belt, Vijender now takes on BJP’s sitting parliamentarian Ramesh Bidhuri and Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha in the political arena. Back in 2017, during an event organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce in Delhi, Vijender and Rahul Gandhi were engaged in an interesting conversation. Vijender, who was in the audience, had some questions for the Gandhi scion, and Gandhi had some interesting responses. To begin with, the professional boxer asked him that while a lot of politicians were seen inaugurating sport events, they are rarely seen playing any sport. Gandhi replied that he practised Aikido, which is a modern Japanese martial art, and also swims regularly. Vijender then suggested that Gandhi post videos of his sporting activities to inspire the youth. What was more interesting though was the second question which also won applause from the audience. The boxer wanted to know if Gandhi would tie the knot anytime soon or only after he became Prime Minister. The Congress leader almost ducked that, passing it on to “destiny and it will happen when the time is right…”, giving the audience something to laugh about. Vijender pressed and said: “Everybody is waiting for it. It will be quite something if you become Prime Minister and then marry.”
Agent Natalia Simeone spoke to the Italian media and said “it is only a matter of time” before the Argentinean leaves Atletico Madrid for the Lega Serie A teamArgentinean manager Diego Simeone has been with Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid since 2011. There, he has rebuilt the team into a winning squad in Spain. But maybe he needs new challenges in his career. And sister and agent Natalia Simeone, spoke with La Gazzetta Dello Sport as echoed by Football Italia on how the coach can return soon to Italy.Capello calls Lukaku “a modern striker” Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 The former Italian manager believes Romelu Lukaku is perfectly suited for Antonio Conte’s Internazionale Milan in the Serie A.“Diego said it too, sooner or later, he’ll end up at Inter,” she said.“I think it is only a matter of time. He loves the club, the atmosphere and living in Milan. Inter is a side he would really love to coach.”“I should point out that he is also still very fond of Lazio, too,” she added.“At the end of the day, passion always wins out. Diego has been with Atletico for seven years. He is one of the best Coaches in the world, but he remains when he knows there is still work to be done. And I accompany him.”
The Southampton three-game unbeaten run came to an end after losing 3-0 against Liverpool, but manager Mark Hughes is still positiveSouthampton F.C. fantastic run has come to an end.The Saint tied their first match 0-0 against Burnley, then lost 2-1 against Everton and Leicester City. But from there, Southampton picked up a 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Football League Cup, then beat Crystal Palace 2-0 and tied against Brighton again 2-2.Virgil van Dijk praises Roberto Firmino after Liverpool’s win Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Virgil van Dijk hailed team-mate Roberto Firmino after coming off the bench to inspire Liverpool to a 3-1 comeback win against Newcastle United. And then came Liverpool, and with the quality of this world-class win, the Saints lost 3-0 at Anfield Stadium. But for manager Mark Hughes, there are many positives that come out of this defeat.“I thought we had good moments, plenty of good play in wide areas, where we created space and opportunities to get good balls into the box, but you’ve still got to keep the back door shut and we weren’t able to do that today,” he told the club’s official website.“This is the first defeat in four games, so we’ve been doing ok. Obviously, coming to places like this, you’ve got to give yourself a chance to stay in the game and create opportunities when you’re on an even keel with the opposition, but we weren’t able to do that.”
Santiago Solari believes that Isco was appealing for a corner instead of confronting supporters in Real Madrid’s 3-0 Champions League defeat to CSKA MoscowThe Spanish midfielder was booed by his own supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night and appeared to react with a gesture and some angry words. But Real coach Solari feels that Isco’s actions were simply misunderstood.“I had the feeling that he was claiming for a corner, or a foul,” said Solari, according to ESPN.“I understand the media’s work, but ours must be something else. Isco is a mature man, a professional, and has given so many things, so much joy to this club.“Every little thing here at Madrid is given great importance by the media, where there is a lot of hyperbole. I understand you have your job to do. But we focus on our own jobs, which is completely different.”Match Preview: Barcelona vs Valencia Boro Tanchev – September 14, 2019 Is derby time in La Liga, as Barcelona welcomes Valencia to the Camp Nou Stadium tonight at 21:00 (CET).Despite suffering their worst ever home defeat in Europe this week, the Argentine has called for calm from the Real supporters.“The fans express themselves, and we must respect that,” added Solari.“We always want to have their support, we need that. Over 115 years of history all the things we have achieved have come from being united.“How can we not believe in Real Madrid, after so many years and trophies and legends? Real Madrid have won four of the last five Champions Leagues.“We are still alive in all the competitions we are playing in. In football there can be ups and downs during a season, but through Madrid’s history there have been a lot more ups.”Real will face will host 19th-place side Rayo Vallecano in La Liga this Saturday at the Bernabeu with Gareth Bale currently a doubt due to a ankle problem from the mid-week game.
