Umphrey’s McGee Confirms Three-Night New Year’s Run In Chicago, With Three Sets On NYE

first_imgFor many years, Umphrey’s McGee in Chicago was a given for New Year’s Eve. However, never content to repeat themselves, Umphrey’s McGee ventured to spots like Atlanta and Colorado throughout the 2010’s, leaving fans in their hometown Windy City dismayed. Fortunately, the band told fans at North Coast Music Festival to expect a homecoming for the end of 2016, and the group has just confirmed the news.The band will hit Chicago for three nights at the end of December, spending December 29th at The Riviera Theatre before heading to The Aragon Ballroom for two nights, on December 30th and 31st. The show on December 30th will also feature support from The Motet, and Umphrey’s will play three sets as they usher in the New Year.The band has also rolled out a special umVIP package, which includes “a private step and repeat photo-op with the band on 12/30, alongside an open bar and joyous mariachi tunes in the Aragon lobby. Oxford boys win preseason tourneys; WMS games tonight

first_imgMarion Tournament: Belle Plaine girls finished sixth out of six teams with a 46-39 loss to the host in the fifth-place game. The Belle Plaine boys also finished last with a 45-35 loss to Peabody-Burns. by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — It was a busy weekend for Sumner County teams as the Oxford boys won their preseason tournament. The other Sumner County teams were not as fortunate. Also, the schedule for the Wellington Middle School basketball games are as follows.Sumner County tournaments: Oxford Wildcat Classic: The Oxford boys won their own Wildcat Tournament Classic this past weekend.The Oxford boys beat Bluestem 51-49 in the championship game.The Wildcats led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, 27-22 at the half. In the third quarter, Bluestem erased the lead with a 16-10 output. Oxford came back to win by two.“It’s always good to play a game early where you have to battle to get a win,” Kyle Green, Oxford head boys basketball coach said. “Bluestem is a very physical team, and their guards shot the ball really well.”Bluestem hit nine 3’s on the night, and made some big shots in key situations, Green said.“Our kids did a nice job of responding to that, and we did a good job of playing hard throughout the game. Offensively in the half court we were better at times. Defensively we were decent down the stretch.”Oxford was led by Gage Burkes with 20. Williams had 10, Norris 1, Jones 12, Palmer 4, and Kennedy 4.Oxford girls split, losing to Flinthills 48-42, before beating Tyro Christian 47-38. Oxford girls then lost to Bluestem 42-40 to finish 1-2 in the tournament. Wellington Middle School schedule for Monday: Wellington vs. Rose Hill.  Girls – home, 7B 4 p.m, 7A 5:15 p.m., 8A 6:30 p.m. Boys – home, 7A/8B 5 p.m, 7B/8A 6:30 p.m. Kingman Tournament: Kingman beat the Conway Springs boys for third place 59-51. South Haven had beaten Timberlake, Okla. 92-30 and Medford, Okla. 71-37.South Haven girls lost their last two games of the tournament. They were beaten by Pond Creek 62-32 and Deer Creek-Lamont 49-31. Caldwell Border-Queen Classic: Argonia girls went 2-1 in the Caldwell tournament with a 54-28 win over Caldwell, Saturday night. The Red Raiders opened with a 19-4 lead, but saw Caldwell come back with a 13-3 output in the second quarter to make it 27-22 at halftime.The Red Raiders would go on to outscore Caldwell 14-5 and 18-6 in the third and fourth quarter.Hessman led Argonia with 31 points. Peetom had 10 and Allen 8. Caldwell was led by Rice with 10. Argonia earlier lost to Norwich 50-46. Before that the Red Raiders beat Central 82-20. Argonia is 3-1 on the season.On the boys side, Caldwell beat Argonia 53-10. Caldwell led 30-3 at the half en route to victory. Central won the tournament.last_img read more
