Gov’t Demands DNA Test from Allison Family To Claim Body

first_imgThe Liberian Government through the Ministry of Justice is demanding a Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid (DNA) test from the family of the late Atty. Michael Allison in order to claim his remains and obtain permission to carry out any funeral arrangements.Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing yesterday in Monrovia, Justice Minister and Attorney General, Cllr. Benedict Sannoh, said both of the autopsy reports proved there was no foul play in the death of Atty. Allison.Cllr. Sannoh explained that the family must complete a DNA test to establish beyond all reasonable doubt their relationship with the deceased before claiming the body for subsequent burial arrangements. The DNA is a self-replicating material present in nearly all-living organisms as the main constituent of chromosomes, and it is the carrier of genetic information of related families.“In the comprehensive reports of the autopsies, both the American and the Sierra Leonean pathologists showed that Atty. Michael Allison died of drowning.  The government is pleased with the reports due to the level of competencies and experience of these pathologists, both locally and internationally,” Minister Sannoh said.He further explained that Allison’s death did not happen because of outside interference and that no foul play was discovered during the two autopsy procedures.According to the Justice Minister, Atty. Michael Allison was in possession of several passports, including that of the United States with different identifications, contrary to the Michael Allison name he was identified with.“Based on this, the Liberian government has informed the United States Government of the passing of one of their citizens in Liberia.”Cllr. Sannoh said that another family member in the United States has also shown up.”  He explained that “The Liberia National Police last month invited a pathologist from neighboring Sierra Leone to conduct an autopsy on the deceased. When the autopsy was completed, and to ensure that the findings were valid and also due to the public’s huge concern, another autopsy was carried out, this time by an American.”Cllr. Sannoh explained that the two pathologists completed their respective autopsy reports and concluded that in their professional and expert opinions, the cause of death was natural.Attorney General Sannoh explained that the two doctors examined the contents of his stomach, which also revealed Atty. Allison’s death was by salt water drowning. He said physical skin effect, involving his eyelid, knee, neck, ears and others were not the result of a blunt force injury but instead were due to animals that attacked the body following his death.”Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

It sold out the Royal Albert Hall in London and performed to more than 100 000 fans around the country. The show debuted in South Africa in March 2016 at Cape Town’s Baxter Theatre. It moves to Johannesburg in September and Durban in October. After return performances in the Cape at the end of the year, the production hopes to travel to other South African centres and Namibia during 2017, culminating in performances in New York City in April 2017.Source: Cape Town At Nightlast_img read more

How about splashing around in a semi-precious stone bathtub trimmed with gold that will set you back by a whopping Rs 1 crore? Carved out of amethyst, this opalescent soak pit from Italian bathroom major Baldi is the latest in washroom luxury. If you are game for more, browse through French brand THG’s Prestige collection of faucets that are accented with a rich assortment of coloured stones like quartz rose, rock crystal, red jasper, black onyx, malachite, tiger eye and lapis lazuli. The Rug Collection from the same label has elaborate patterns created from glass tilesSays Jean Noel Edouard, head, product design, Nagina Waters, a Delhi-based luxury bathroom store that showcases high-end brands like THG, Capponi and Baldi, “India is a land that’s traditionally associated with ornamentation. So, going for bathroom fixtures and fittings that lack detailing or colour result in a bland, antiseptic look.” He adds that the bathroom decor needs to be perfectly calibrated to one’s needs and sensibilities rather than being a blind imitation of the reigning Western trend. It is no secret that adornments for washrooms are now being held in high regard. A host of materials ranging from Swarovski crystals and artistic mosaics to precious metal and semi-precious stones are now part of the luxury washroom repertoire.A mother-of-pearl-inlaid vanity from CapponiCashing on this new-found love for extravagant adornments is Italian mosaic brand Sicis, that has retail outlets in Delhi and Mumbai. The label has launched butterfly-shaped mosaic art for bathrooms that impress with their eye-popping colours and shimmer. Nodding to an effervescent spirit, the line, titled Butterfly Mosaic Collection, is made of glass tesserae or pressed glass tile. Depending on the quality of design and installation, this range costs between Rs 3,800 and Rs 75,850. “Sicis gives the opportunity to experience the bathroom as a place of aesthetic and material well being,” says Andrea Azzarello, the brand’s spokesperson.Amethyst bathtub from BaldiThe new age bathroom materials take a cue from opulent decor schemes predominant in the rest of the house. Precious metals like gold and silver, now used in faucets and showerheads, reference accents in the living and bedrooms. Agrees Edouard of Nagina Waters: “Traditional notions of seclusion and privacy are slowly becoming obsolete. Guests are often given tours of designer bathrooms in this day and age.” To satiate a growing appetite for ornate finishes and textures, Nagina Waters has on offer gold, silver and even platinum leaf bathroom tiles from Italian brand Godiva Stone.Soap dispenser, toothbrush holder and soap dish from Baldi. Both Baldi and Capponi are retailed in India by Nagina Waters.Luxurious to touch and pleasing to the eye, Godiva Stone tiles are made of high-quality marble wrapped with a leaf of precious material. This leaf is applied on the tile by a manual process. For the truly inspired, customisation is taken to the next level with etchings on marble with decorative motifs, writings, logos and designs, as dictated by the patron.Indeed, the desire for one-of-a-kind washroom decor has paved the way for grander layouts and fancier materials. Staying true to the trend, interior designers too are pulling out all stops to offer an upscale product to their clients.A washroom created by La Sorogeeka has textured walls and a detailed chandelierA powder room created by Noida-based interior design outfit La Sorogeeka has its high ceiling embellished with white crystal, walls sporting crococeramic tiles with leather finish and a stone floor. Artists of the firm’s workshop have even created an engraved look for some of the walls. The final flourish is added by way of an exaggerated chandelier in black and white. “There’s a new approach to design now. And the powder room is a space showcased to all guests. It should be attention grabbing,” says Anjali Goel, CEO, La Sorogeeka.Gold-plated cotton ball holder from Bathline SensationsAccording to Varun Gupta, joint managing director, Bathline Sensations, a Delhi-based bathroom accessories label that dabbles in Swarovski crystals and metals like gold and silver, the aim is to raise the metal to the category of art. Patriots defeat Rams in lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever

first_imgPDEA chief backs Robredo in revealing ‘discoveries’ on drug war MOST READ Grace Poe files bill to protect govt teachers from malicious accusations It was the lowest score at halftime since Super Bowl 9, which Pittsburgh led 2-0 over Minnesota.McVay, the youngest Super Bowl head coach at 33, admitted he was outcoached. He had no answers as Gurley, coming off knee issues, managed 35 yards rushing, Goff went 19 for 38 for 229 yards and was sacked four times. Brandin Cooks, a Patriots receiver last season, did have eight receptions for 120 yards.“They did a great job. I’m disappointed that I didn’t do a better job of adjusting,” McVay said. “I know there is a handful of decisions that I’m going to wish that I could have back, for sure.”KICKING GAMEGostkowski’s 46-yard miss wide left in the first quarter was the first unsuccessful field goal in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Falcons, by an NFL player all season. The Rams’ Johnny Hekker had a 65-yard punt in the third quarter, the longest in a Super Bowl. It was his eighth punt of the game — with 1 1-2 periods remaining — the most for LA in McVay’s two seasons in charge.Greg Zuerlein tied it with 2:11 left in the third quarter on the first drive on which Los Angeles gained more than one first down. His 53-yarder was the second-longest field goal in a Super Bowl.COIN TOSSMcVay deferred after winning the coin toss. In their previous two playoff games, the Patriots marched right downfield to a touchdown with the opening kickoff, setting an immediate tone. This time, after Cordarrelle Patterson’s 38-yard kickoff return and four successful runs, Brady’s first pass was tipped by receiver Chris Hogan and cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman. Linebacker Cory Littleton made a diving interception. It was the first time Brady was picked on his initial throw in a postseason game.INJURIES US judge bars Trump’s health insurance rule for immigrants Rude welcome Julian Edelman, the outstanding receiver who missed the 2017 season with a knee injury, was the game’s MVP with 10 receptions for 141 yards. With 4:17 left, All-Pro Stephon Gilmore picked off an ill-advised pass by Rams quarterback Jared Goff, who seemed overwhelmed by the big stage all night, at the New England 2.Stephen Gostkowski made a 41-yard field goal with 1:12 remaining, completing a 72-yard march that took more than three minutes off the clock and included 26-yard runs by Michel and Rex Burkhead. It was a workmanlike conclusion for the Patriots (14-5), whose losses all came away from New England. They beat the top two offenses in the Chiefs and Rams (15-4) in the postseason, and tied Pittsburgh for most Super Bowl titles.“We’re a relentless team,” Hightower said after New England allowed the fewest points in a Super Bowl (tied with Dallas in 1972 against Miami). “We didn’t give up. A lot was thrown at us. When we play like we did tonight, we can’t be beat.”The Rams, who reached the NFL championship game with the aid of a major officiating error in the conference title victory at New Orleans, never really threatened to reach the end zone.“Last time I checked, defense wins championships,” Rams running back C.J. Anderson said.At 66, Bill Belichick became the oldest winning Super Bowl coach. The Patriots beat the Rams, then representing St. Louis, to begin their dynastic run in the 2002 game. They also have beaten Carolina and Philadelphia (2004 and ’05, the last back-to-back championships); the Seahawks in 2015; and the Falcons in 2017 in the only overtime in Super Bowl history. They have lost three times, including to Philadelphia a year ago. New England is the first team since the 1972 Dolphins to win a Super Bowl the year after losing one.How the Patriots accomplished it was atypical. The 10-point margin was their biggest in winning a championship. It feels good for us to get it all. Shout out to him getting his, but this is a team game and it feels good to win.”But the defense still needed vintage Brady for one drive. He threw two perfect passes to Rob Gronkowski to set up rookie Sony Michel’s 2-yard score — the only touchdown in the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever. That put New England up 10-3. A late field goal clinched it 13-3.No Super Bowl had gone into the fourth quarter without a touchdown. This one did, tied 3-3 — even though these teams had combined to average over 60 points a game. When the Patriots needed a score, Brady, the oldest winning quarterback in a Super Bowl at 41, completed four straight passes, including a pair covering 47 yards to Gronkowski. The second, on which the star tight end beat two defenders, ended at the Los Angeles 2, the only time either team was inside the 20-yard line. Michel ran off left tackle for his sixth postseason touchdown.“He knows to trust in me and throw that ball,” Gronkowski said, “and I’m going to grab it.”ADVERTISEMENT “Finally got a touchdown and the defense played the best game of the year,” Brady said.In a season in which all sorts of offensive records were set, this Super Bowl rewrote the defensive record book.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSUrgent reply from Philippine ‍football chiefSPORTSPalace wants Cayetano’s PHISGOC Foundation probed over corruption charges“How about our defense? He was the steadiest offensive player on the field.“It just matters that we won,” Edelman said. “It was a crazy year. We had a resilient bunch of guys.”Brady passed Hall of Famer Charles Haley to become the only player with six Super Bowl titles. All those suspicions about the Patriots declining this season became moot as the defense made the 24-year-old Goff look awful and turned All-Pro running back Todd Gurley into a nonfactor. It wasn’t a typical New England championship win. The 2 1/2-point favorite Patriots moved the ball well, ran down the clock, but made uncharacteristic gaffes on offense. Goff and the Rams made more.“I think we expected to score a lot more points than that,” Goff said. “It sucks that’s the way it worked out, but we’ll use this as a learning experience.”A painful one.LA’s second-ranked offense managed 57 total yards for the first half. The Rams were completely overmatched on the line and were particularly unable to handle the elusive Edelman, who had seven receptions for 93 yards.Coach Sean McVay, whose Rams never had been blanked in a first half, let out a long, deep sigh just before halftime, recognizing how badly his team was manhandled, even though it trailed just 3-0.
