Google Zeitgeist 2012: Top Searches Of The Year [Video]

first_imgGangnam Style, the presidential election of 2012, Hurricane Sandy and Felix Baumgartner’s supersonic freefall; these are just a few of Google’s top searches featured in their Zeitgeist 2012: Year in Review video uploaded today. Besides historic events, scientific discoveries, celebrity deaths and the top trending videos, the 2:46 digital capsule is also a sly advert for Google+. The camera pans over Google hangouts or videos obviously being watched on Google+, the social network often ridiculed for being a ghost town. Zeitgeist 2012 also highlighted YouTube’s livestreaming success by bookending the video with Felix Baumgartner’s record-breaking stunt (aka Red Bull Stratos’ marketing success).     What was noticably missing from Zeitgeist 2012 was any mention of porn. Everyone knows “the Internet is for porn,” and according to Google trends data, searches for porn easily dwarf searchs for, say, “Gangnam Style” which was featured in the 2012 Zeitgeist video. U.S. To Microsoft: I See You Might Be Trying To Bribe Someone

first_img3 Areas of Your Business that Need Tech Now Massive Non-Desk Workforce is an Opportunity fo… brian proffitt Cognitive Automation is the Immediate Future of… U.S. regulators are investigating software giant Microsoft and its partners over alleged bribery schemes in China, Italy and Romania, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are reportedly both investigating allegations that Microsoft received kickbacks in these three nations. No formal charges have been filed. In China, an executive in Microsoft’s subsidiary allegedly ordered an employee to “offer kickbacks to Chinese officials in return for signing off on software contracts, according to people familiar with the matter and people briefed on the internal probe,” the Journal reported. The feds are also investigating suspicions that Microsoft offered kickbacks to get deals with Romania’s Ministry of Communications, as well as using partners in Italy to lavish gifts on Italian procurement officials.Microsoft’s response to the news has been as detailed as it can be, given it’s the focus of an active investigation.“The matters raised in the Wall Street Journal are important, and it is appropriate that both Microsoft and the government review them. It is also important to remember that it is not unusual for such reviews to find that an allegation was without merit,” Microsoft deputy general counsel John Frank wrote in a company blog post today.Frank noted that such probes are not automatically guaranteed to generate actual charges. Corruption allegations are common, he argued, particularly for multinational corporations. He also acknowledged that in a company as large as Microsoft, problems will sometimes occur:In a company of our size, allegations of this nature will be made from time to time. It is also possible there will sometimes be individual employees or business partners who violate our policies and break the law. In a community of 98,000 people and 640,000 partners, it isn’t possible to say there will never be wrongdoing.Frank emphasized that Microsoft plans to cooperate fully with “any government inquiries.”Image courtesy of Shutterstockcenter_img Related Posts IT + Project Management: A Love Affair Tags:#Microsoft last_img read more

Sardar Singh feels Indian Hockey team deserves gold after all the hard work

first_imgSardar Singh is not new to responsibilities. He has been the face of Indian hockey for years now, often singlehandedly holding the team together in tough situations. Sardar has seen a lot of changes during his career – from coaches being axed to top players retiring; from not qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympics to making it to London four years later.Even after years of hard work, the midfielder’s love for the sport remains undiminished. With the team set for its next challenge – the Incheon Asian Games – Sardar is hoping to not just guide his team to a gold medal but also make a significant contribution to the team’s cause. “Besides the additional responsibility as skipper, I have always tried to ensure that my contribution as a player is not undermined. I never miss training sessions. I try to improve my performance every day,” Sardar told MAIL TODAY before the team’s departure to South Korea. So focused is the captain on the task at hand that he has even stopped using social networking sites to avoid distraction. “I have not been using my Facebook account for quite some time. My Twitter account is being managed by my fiance Ashpal Bhogal. I have tried to stay away from distractions.” Optimistic as always, Sardar feels the month-long camp was useful and the team is determined not to settle for anything except the gold medal. “We have prepared well and are just waiting for the Asian Games to start,” Sardar said.advertisement”With the way we have been training, the team deserves a gold medal. Of course, there are good teams like Korea, Pakistan and Malaysia, but I have full confidence in my team.”The skipper says his team might have an advantage in Incheon since they have been playing according to the new four-quarter format in the Hockey India League for two years. “All of us have played in the Hockey India League. So, we have a fair idea about the format,” he said.last_img read more
