Pomeroon residents appeal for safe drinking water

first_imgResidents in the Pomeroon River, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are now faced with drinking water woes as their only source of water is now not safe for consumption.The murky water in the Pomeroon RiverPomeroon is the home of thousands of Amerindians.According to the residents, owing to the prolonged dry season, the Region was forced to pump water from the already low conservancy to save the rice fields and as such, that has contributed to low water levels in the Pomeroon River.As a result, with Atlantic Ocean at high tide, the murky sea water would make its way into the River making it impossible for residents to use.Schools, businesses and other institutions are affected.Residents who have large water storage tanks are running low while those who cannot afford such storage are facing serious problems in sourcing potable water.They are appealing to the authorities to address the issue with urgency.One of the recommendations made by residence is to implement a water distribution system along the river so persons can have access to clean drinking water.last_img read more
